Starting immedi­ately, visitors can register for up­kovka 2019 free of cost under The most important Russian trade fair of the packaging in­dustry and the related processing industry takes place at the AO Expocen­tre Krasnaja Presnja exhi­bition centre in Moscow from 29 January to 1 Feb­ruary, 2019.

After a positive trend with a corresponding increase in visitors to last year’s fair was already noted at the beginning of this year, early signs for 2019 are promising once more: Af­ter cautious consumption during the years of reces­sion, Russian consumers are now increasingly reach­ing for high-quality pack­aged foods again. The sale of soft drinks is also rising. At the same time, Russia is resolutely continuing its policy of import sub­stitution. Thanks to state support and subsidies, the percentage of locally produced products has increased. For the further processing of these prod­ucts, Russian and inter­national companies are unabatedly investing in the development and expan­sion of their local produc­tion capacities, boosting the demand for packaging, processing and bottling/ filling technology in the process.

Wide range from technol­ogy to packaging

upakovka_18_-20The upakovka trade fair exhibits promising prod­ucts and solutions from the entire value chain for the target groups of food, beverages, confectionery products and baked goods, pharmaceuticals, cosmet­ics, 2 non-food consumer goods and industrial goods with a focus on processing and packaging technol­ogy, whereby the packag­ing part of the upcom­ing event is once again considerably expanding in scope. The increased alignment towards the pharmaceutical sector due to the partnership with the Association of Pharmaceutical Packaging Manufacturers (APFU) is also new in 2019. APFU represents the interests of leading Russian manufac­turers of pharmaceutical packaging. At upakovka, pharmaceutical companies not only find solutions for solid products, but also for liquid medications. In addition to beverage bot­tling technology, filling technology for cosmetics and chemicals is part of the offerings of exhibi­tors such as KHS, Krones, Sidel and SMI. Compa­nies that are taking part within the scope of the official German delega­tion also include global players such as Fawema, KBA, Theegarten-Pactec, Sollich and Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein. Added to this group are individual ex­hibitors such as Rovema, AUER Packaging, OMAG Srl, SIPA, CFT Group and OMAS Tecnosistemi. Various companies of the “Processing & Pack­aging – The High Tech Italian Way” network and members of the Italian mechanical engineering association UCIMA will also be represented at upa­kovka 2019. The Russian exhibitors include Danaf­lex-Nano, Zolotoy Shar Group, Russkaya Trapeza and Robotek Production Company.

“Innovationparc” special topic considerably expand­ed

upakovka_18_-25Since upakovka has been organised under the aegis of the interpack alliance, the “innovationparc” special topic adapted by interpack in Düsseldorf will play an important role in Moscow. After the lively interest of the last two years, the forum pro­gramme of innovationparc will take placein parallel on two stages at upakovka 2019. In this way, visi­tors can obtain even more information on the trend­ing topics of the industry throughout the duration of the trade fair. Focuses will include “Digital In­novation for Packaging & Labelling,” “Packaging Design,” “Recycling and Packaging Waste” and, for the first time, “Phar­maceutical Packaging and Labelling.” The latter is of particular interest to af­fected companies 3 due to new legal regula­tions. In addition, a block will once again be pro­vided on the topic of SAVE FOOD in coop­eration with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The partners of innovationparc are the National Packaging Con­federation (NCPack), the Verband Deutscher Mas­chinen und Anlagenbau (VDMA), the Global As­sociation for Marketing at Retail (POPAI), the Rus­sian Branding Companies Association (RBCA) and the Russian trade journal Tara i Upakovka.

In total, about 850 com­panies will have exhibits at upakovka and the parallel trade fair interplastica – International Trade Fair Plastics and Rubber. upa­kovka will once again take place in the Forum hall, one of the largest on the trade fair grounds.

The EBS K ERGON stretch-blow moulder is available in 2, 3 and 4-cavity versions and al- lows the users to benefit from all the advantages of the rotary technology in a speed range (from1.000 to 9.000 bottles/hour), traditionally served by linear stretch- blow moulders. GON: the most compact rotary combi in the world Resulting from an innovative project characterized by the use of tech- nologically advanced solutions inspired by Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT), the ECOBLOC® ERGONK series developed by SMI is an ultra-compact system for stretch-blow moulding, filling and capping PET containers up to 3 L.The ECOBLOC® K systems offer all the advantages of the rotary technology, even for production requirements from 1.000 to 9.000 bottles/hour and are suitable for bottling lines for milk and still water ( EV models) and edible oil (EM models). In ECOBLOC® version, combined with a filling and capping module, the new EBS K ERGON indeed offers even more advantages:

The new EBS K ERGON stretch blow moulder is one of the latest innovation developped by SMI: a compact, efficient, flexible, ergonomic machine, equipped with innovative technologies inspired to Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Available in 2,3 and 4cavity models, it is the ideal solution for manufacturing PET containers in the output rate range from 3,000 to 9,000 bottles/hour and offers all the benefits of the rotary technology.

Thanks to the EBS K project SMI was namedone of 11 National Winners from 189 businesses representing Italy for The European Business Awards, Europe’s largest business competition, sponsored by RSM.

SMI was chosen by a panel of independent judges including senior business leaders, politicians and academics as the best in Italy in the category “Awards for Innovation”, and will now go on to represent Italy in this category in the final stage of the competition. The National Winners from each country will face further judging in their chosen category, and the final Category Winners will be announced at the European Business Awards Gala Final in Warsaw, Poland on 23rd May 2018.

The new EBS K ER GON stands out in its market segment for series of advangtages:

  • The preform heating section (tunnel) is integrated with the stretch blow moulding section (blowing wheel) in a single, very compact module, which can be installed even in small bottling The tunnel features a horizontal preform feeder chain and an optimized ventilation and aeration system. Moreover, the infrared lamp units responsible for heating the preforms in transit are equipped witha system of thermoreflective panels made of a highly energy efficient composite material, and are situated both in front of and behind the lamps. This technically advanced solution ensures excellent reflection of the heat generated by the IR lamps and consequently ensures a more uniform distribution of the heat over the entire surface of the preform; the inside of the tunnel is also equipped with an aluminium diffuser to provide optimal temperature control and prevent overheating problems.
  • The structure that contains the tunnel and the blowing wheel is equipped with safety doors that are slightly rounded, providing more space inside the machine to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks easily and
  • The stretch blowing wheel is equipped with motorized stretch rods controlled by electronicdrives and do not require mechanical cams; this innovative solution ensures precise control of the stretch rod’s travel and position, as well as significant energy savings. This technology makes it possible to change the stretching speed without mechanical intervention (switching cams) and greatly reduces the vibration stress on the blowing wheel compared to traditional solutions.
  • The stretch blow moulding system uses high performance, low dead volume valves that reduce preblowing and blowing times, thereby improving the machine efficiency and the quality of the bottles produced.
  • The mechanical as sembly of the mould isequipped with its own motorization, which ensures the utmost precision for the up/ down motion of the mould bottom and the opening/closing of the mold holder unit; the integration of this innovative solution with the electronic stretch rod system effectively makes SMI’s EBS K ERGON stretch blow moulders a “cam free” system, with considerable advantages in terms of greater kinematic accuracy, less maintenance, less vibration, less noise and increased system longevity.
  • The system is controlled by the tested Motornet System® for automation and control, which ensures constant maintenance of optimum processingparameters throughout the entire production cycle and the direct modification of machine settings, thus simplifying format changeover operations.
  • The blowing pressure is automatically regulated according to bottle format, offering unquestionable advantages compared to the manual adjustment solutions employed on the linear blow moulders that SMI’s EBS K models compete with
  • The new machine also comes standard witha two stage air recovery system. The new EBS K ERGON rotary stretch blow moulders have a very attractive quality/price ratio and also provide savings on installation and startup costs, as the compactness of the system permits these operations to be performed in a single day.

SMI’s new secondary packaging machines are equipped almost exclusively with brush-less motors whereas traditional motors are installed only on the shrink tunnel and on the cardboard climb; this solution ensures higher efficiency and precision of movements and low energy consumption. Fur- thermore, the ERGON packers are equipped with a POSYC control panel incorporating a user-friendly man-machine interface with touchscreen display and advanced functions of diagnostics and real-time technical support.

The new shrink tunnels boast cutting-edge technical solutions ensuring energy savings, top environmental compatibility of production processes and high quality of the pack manufactured. At the shrink tunnel outlet a conveyor connects the tunnel belt to the conveyor system of the production line, ensuring a proper thermal transition of the pack thanks to a ventilation device.

New blow-molder EBS K ERGON: SMI solution devoted to Industry 4.0 At Interpack 2017 SMI exhibited the world premiere of the new compact blow- molder EBS K ERGON in ECOBLOC® version as well as an electronic volumetric filler. A new important step in the “new age of bottling” focused on Industry 4.0.

Since 1987 SMI has been developing cutting-edge projects and technologies, in order to offer turn-key bottling lines and flexible, ergonomic, efficient packaging machines, increasingly inspired by the concepts of Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT). Based on the technical innovations of the stretch blow-molders of the EBS ERGON series (Electronic Blowing System), SMI engineers have developed a new series of very compact rotary machines, called EBS K ERGON (“K” refers to the German word “Kom- pakt”), suitable for outputs up to 8.800 bottles/hour.

The new models, available in 2-, 3- and 4-cavity versions, offer all advantages of the rotary technology, with an output range traditionally controlled by linear blow-molders (from 3-4.000 to 8-9.000 bottles/ hour); thanks to the state-of-the-art solutions, the EBS K ERGON series can produce PET containers up to 3 litres with a maximum output of 2200 bottles/ hour per cavity for the 0,5-liter format.

Thanks to its high degree of flexibility and the choice between the neck or body handling options, the VIRGO filler can meet each and every need in terms of production speed and types of container.

The VIRGO range can handle a wide variety of containers:

  • PET bottles: from 0.25 to 3 L or 5 L with Neck Handling
  • PET bottles: from 0.25 to 10 L with Body Handling.

Today, one of the main challenges from our customers is to find an efficient filling system that guarantees a precise quantity of filled product: the VIRGO filler has been launched to answer this need.

With its weight filling system, VIRGO is able to ensure high filling precision, thanks to advanced electronic components and algorithms developed over the past 20 years. In addition to the high precision, a reject system allows the expulsion of any anomalous containers, in order to ensure the absolute quality of the packaged product.

By the end of the production process, all the product remain- ing inside the machine is recovered so as to reduce waste to a minimum.OCME’s new filling solution aims to reach a maximum efficiency in terms of productivity and performance for the customer. Safety is one of our priorities and during the machine design phase a programmable control unit has been specifically designed for safety management purposes. A stainless steel enclosure, combined with

tempered glass screens, guarantees a high standard of hygiene, which is a key priority in the food industry. It also allows excellent operator visibility and easy access for maintenance.

Finally, thanks to the PC dedicated to the supervision and control of the machine, it is possible to monitor the weighing statistics and the archiving of data related to each container, so as to ensure an optimal control of the production.
